Returning back to the vanguard of Death Metal, Revocation wasted no time this year in delivering their calculated masterstroke of Metal once again. Like clockwork the band put out albums every two years. Deciding instead go for a more well rounded approach this time, Dave Davidson decided that thematically the record would center around humanity and its varying degrees of idiocy in its idea of humanity in itself. However this was also the first record not to feature long time drummer Phil Dubois-Coyne. Enlisting the help of one Ash Pearson of previous 3 Inches of Blood fame, the drummer in a word totally floored everyone. From the fluttering Jazz style beats to the all out blasting that Revocation are known for Pearson truly stepped up his game.

Creativity in a band is a quality that cannot truly be learnt. An innate sense of self, the creative output of a band will be their defining ideology regardless of how grandiose their ideas might be. Not one for being pigeonholed, Revocation are a true creative band. Blending the likes of Old School Death Metal, Black Metal, Thrash Metal, the list goes on, into their veritable melting pot of a sound. A testament to the band’s unique output their latest release Great Is Our Sin is yet another milestone in the band’s fast increasing catalogue. Whilst on their first offensive over in the UK in support of the new album we were able to speak to none other than guitar virtuoso Dan Gargiulo about the Revocation ethos and just what Great Is Our Sin means in their grand design slowly engulfing the Death Metal community.

Master of evolution Charles Darwin is known far and wide for his idea on the revolutionary notions. Less known perhaps are perhaps some of his more philosophical leanings, no less important in their validity Darwin was a pioneer whose existential thought process has solidified him as one of the great philosophers of our time. Taking this idea of man and its relativity Revocation aim to bring a more musical philosophy to the man’s otherwise pensive ideology in their first ever concept album Great Is Our Sin.
