Solar eclipses, the birth of your first born child, council tax payment deadlines. There are some things that you can not miss. Banding together the four horsemen of the Technical Death Metal apocalypse didn’t quite bring with them Famine, pestilence, death and war but it would have been pretty close. Consisting of Rivers of Nihil, Beyond Creation, Revocation and Obscura this is what separates the men from the boys.

2016 certainly has thrown down the gauntlet in terms of Metal releases. Despite us only just coming into the month of June so far we have had some absolutely astounding releases. From comebacks to phenomenal debuts, expansive work to avant garde madness this is a list chronicling just some of the newest releases this year. Today we will be looking at some of the releases from the first third of the year and boy are there some truly top additions.

Since the band’s primeval state, first stretching their metaphorical muscles in the cosmos the band have become one of the premier league in Technical Death Metal. Once more returning to the path of totality with a renewed sense of identity we welcome the genesis of a new epoch, the age of Akroasis.

A household name in the Death Metal drumming arena, Hannes Grossmann has been a part of numerous different bands in the genre. From the beginnings of Necrophagist from the stint in Obscura, whilst along the way performing with Blotted Science, consisting of Cannibal Corpse bassist Alex Webster and guitar wizard Ron Jarzombek. With a whole host of different bands in the man’s pocket one particular band are potentially the most interesting the man has put together thus far. Made up of Aborted, Obscura, Noneuclid and Dark Fortress members we present to you Alkaloid.  Speaking out about the decision to leave Obscura, the bands new album and some of the drummer’s own inspirations we sat down for a long and thorough chat.
