The art of story telling is hardly something new. A huge part of culture, entire civilisations have been built on the art of telling a story, be it factual or fictional. Giving birth to the idea of literature and film but how can it be incorporated in music? The concept album is an art form that has been around since its seventies hey day. Forming a bridge between the Horror medium and the concept album Carach Angren have had their finger on the (deceased) pulse of the story. Previously releasing 2015’s This Is No Fairytale, now the band return for their most ambitious haunting yet, Dance and Laugh Amongst The Rotten.
Tristan’s Top Five Metal Tracks – June
One of the many joys of being part of the musical world is the ability to listen to all sorts or material out there. I thought it was high time that I compiled a monthly list of my top five tracks.
Carach Angren From Fairytales To Ouija
The idea of a concept within the music is not one that is far fetched. First appearing during the sixties, the idea was at large during the seventies via the Prog movement. It has since then been working its way into the DNA of Metal. Tied together by a what could be a story or running theme throughout the album. Opting for a slightly different take on the concept album, Carach Angren, a name inspired by one of the many fictional, Tolkien created languages are a band where concepts are at their core. Combining elements of Black Metal, Death Metal and Symphonic Metal, the trio made up of Seregor, Ardek and Namtar, have created a unique approach to not only song writing but story telling itself.
Why Costin Chioreanu Is Carach Angren’s Secret Weapon
Before the release of their 2015 effort This Is No Fairytale, I couldn’t have cared less for the fast growing Dutch Symphonic Black Metal band. Having heard their name thrown around in differing circles, people were indeed talking. Convenient for my discovering of them as they released a brand new lyric video for “There’s No Place Like Home“. However it wasn’t just any old lyric video, created by renown artist Costin Chioreanu, the video was more than just a lyric video. Bringing this morbid tale to life entirely and it had me absolutely hooked.
Carach Angren Want You To Meet “Charlie”
Originality in Metal is a trait that is necessary in the modern world to be able to make it. Set to release their brand new album, the incredibly catchy, Dance and Laugh Amongst The Rotten, Carach Angren are gearing up for a new chapter in their morbid story. For those unfamiliar with the band, the trio have created their own niche with the telling of ghost stories in a format of Symphonic Black Metal and their latest, dude June 16th is set to be their most ferocious yet with brand new song “Charlie”.
June Is Death Metal Month
It seems that the Death Metal gods have smiled upon the month of June to be the month where the deluge of Metal is to be set upon us.
Fleshgod Apocalypse & Carach Angren – Live At The Underworld
Concept albums are fast becoming some of the hottest Metal property on the market. Often needing flamboyant dressage with details ranging from costumes with the way into props, the air of the theatrical is more than just a force to be reckoned with. Having toured the US extensively together last year, Fleshgod Apocalypse and Carach Angren being their haunting theatre to a more European of audiences but will Horror outweigh Drama?
2017 : A Look Ahead
As much as there has been some absolutely pedigree Metal released in 2016, it was perhaps not the best of years. Trump is soon to be president, we lost a truly insane amount of celebrities amongst some were David Bowie, not to mention all the disasters that occurred every day and to cap it all off the horrendous news of Team Rock’s potential demise.
