Champions of innovation, upon hearing that the gears have begun to shift in the Meshuggah machine the coveted title of Album of The Year is beginning to slip through other bands’ fingers. Always wanting to push the envelope this time the Swedes focused their attack on the recording itself. Previously toiling with tone and experimenting with additional strings now the band look to themselves as exactly that, a band.

The French beasts that are Gojira, who recently just finished up their support slot with Alter Bridge now the band have finally announced a headline tour of the UK.
For those who might have been following us for a couple of years, you’ll know that in the month of December in celebration of all the genius that has come out throughout this year we pay tribute to twenty four of the best possible releases to come from the year. Twelve from myself and twelve from Chris. In an effort to celebrate all of the best material that the year has thrown at us. Despite it’s truly shocking track record, electing Trump, Bowie, Rickman, Prince and far too many more passing on, 2016 has indeed been an absolutely fantastic year for music. Moving right across the board of Metal and perhaps some more odd choices we give you our Album of The Year list 2016.
Creativity in a band is a quality that cannot truly be learnt. An innate sense of self, the creative output of a band will be their defining ideology regardless of how grandiose their ideas might be. Not one for being pigeonholed, Revocation are a true creative band. Blending the likes of Old School Death Metal, Black Metal, Thrash Metal, the list goes on, into their veritable melting pot of a sound. A testament to the band’s unique output their latest release Great Is Our Sin is yet another milestone in the band’s fast increasing catalogue. Whilst on their first offensive over in the UK in support of the new album we were able to speak to none other than guitar virtuoso Dan Gargiulo about the Revocation ethos and just what Great Is Our Sin means in their grand design slowly engulfing the Death Metal community.
Gothic metal still lives! Lacuna Coil proved that earlier this year with a career rejuvenating album release in ‘Delirium‘, and now look to the live stage once again to deliver those signature theatrics.
To say the phrase ‘what a line up’ might be a bit of an understatement here. It’s simply colossal. Four bands, three of which could probably fill out an arena on their own, perform as one package in one of London’s finest venues. We couldn’t resist, and neither could 20’000 others.
Combining both the fictional with the scientific has been the staple of the make up of some of our best fiction. Used perhaps as a means of escape from the mundane routine of daily life, there is a certain quality that attracts people to the idea of Sci-Fi. Not wanting to remain solely in the medium of film, Metal in particular has welcomed this subgenre with open arms. Releasing their brand new album Terminal Redux this May, Vektor are among the very select few who have mastered not only the art of the synthesis of a hugely charged concept with some of the most inspired music that will take you on a journey like no other this year. Performing at this year’s Bloodstock Festival we were able to speak with singer and guitarist David DiSanto to show us his wonderful world of Cygnus.
