Easily one the undisputed favourites of this year’s Tech Fest Agent Fresco won over our heart’s not just once but twice over the weekend. The first being their main support Saturday main stage slot and the second being a very exclusive and truly haunting acoustic set, which was to be one of the most moving experiences of music that the mass of Tech Fest goers would experience. With their brand new album Destrier set for release next Friday we were able to sit down for a chat with the truly charming Arnor and Þórarinn before both of these magnificent and truly honest performances. Speaking of the band’s new album, past experiences and what we might be seeing from this truly unique band that will very shortly and quite rightly take the world by absolute storm. Agent Fresco, we love you.
Could you tell us about the new album Destrier?
Arnor : It’s a good album haha! It’s a fourteen track concept thingy, well not concept, I dont know if I want to call it concept album any more. There are themes that are focused on different kinds of emotions. The last one was focused on, lyrically the loss of my father and putting it all into like some kind of grief cycle. This one is much more about a little more intense feelings of anger and angst, I changed a lot after I got attacked downtown with my sisters. It just changed me a lot, I remember I was talking about wanting to do like an uplifting album after A Long Time Listening but that changed dramatically so, maybe the next one haha!
It’s called because Destrier not only do I find it to be a really beautiful word but I think I was fascinated by the word before I decided that that should be the title. It was a medieval era, it’s the name of the horses that are bred for war. Not one type of horse, just horses that are bred for war and I found it just to be a beatiful and masculine metaphor for the soul journey. It’s so close to the word destroy also as well there is a lot about it that I found so beautiful. It’s basically just like a small journey, a conversation about regret and angst and how to deal with those emotions and hopefully get rid of them. And Þórarinn of course has his themes…
Þórarinn : I think on this one we tried more to, combine the musical themes with the lyrics. We talked about the music concepts and the theory behind it and tried to incorporate it with the lyrics.
