When moving on in time we often look back bathing in sentimentality pining for the past. Things went at a slower place, worries didn’t lay our thoughts under siege and life was just a little more relaxed. For some this might be somewhere in the 1970’s era, a time known for some of the most visionary bands in history to appear. Channelling the ethos of all that the seventies embodied we see Biters release their second album Electric Blood.

Escapism, an element that has always been present in the long life of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Written for those who work the daily grind. For those who firmly believe that the 70’s were the zenith of this cult genre that is Rock ‘n’ Roll, ironically it would seem that a band of the modern day are an essential throwback to the days when times were simpler.
Combining classic Rock ‘n’ Roll feel of AC/DC with a nostalgic look back to the past, Biters create a sepia tinged vision. With tracks like “1975” the band wear their heart on their sleeve. One of the biggest points of Electric Blood is it sheer accessibility, with tracks like “Dreams Don’t Die” retaining a Jimmy Eat World vibe of reflection, yet dressed in the accoutrement of Classic Rock, is where the band excel. Making simple yet memorable sections that are not only accessible but would sound even better live. Blues oriented “Low Lives In Hi Definition” our slight Noel Fielding lookalike has the energy and swagger that was essential in the heydays.
Though Biters would be at a push classified as metal, more of a classic rock outfit. Complete with shaking tambourine in the chorus sections for that added vintage sound, not to mention a great dial in of tone on guitarist Matt Gabs’ guitar. The Classic era where Guns ruled and Roses reigned is encapsulated in great little snapshots on Electric Blood. With the bouncy “Time To Bleed” and the Thin Lizzy reminiscent harmonies in “Heart Fulla Rock ‘n’ Roll“. In their effort to escape the reality of the working man Biters have conjured up a nostalgic record that oozes style. Title track “Electric Blood” features a great little pentatonic guitar solo, identikit with the genre, though it might not be the stadium sized leads of Slash it compliments the song just as it should.
If you’re seeking music of the heavier variety then you would want to give Electric Blood a miss. However if you fancy some easier listening, driving in the car, walking in the sun then Biters will most certainly suit. A brilliant tool ,music creates a sense within to lose yourself. With Biters’ debut album the band embrace the listener as though speaking to an old friend. Building a rapport with the listeners can be one of the hardest elements of music but the band succeed the second this simple, catchy and ultimately timeless record comes on. Personifying an era bygone Biters embody all of the cliché checks in a youthful familiarity.
