An Interview With : Jordan Mancino (Wovenwar)

Deciding to take the high road the remaining members of As I Lay Dying decided to instead begin a new. After the events that occured took place the band didn’t want to have a rebrand of the band, an AILD 2.0 if you will, instead the band began their new vision Wovenwar. Prior to performing at their London show this May we were able to catch up with drummer man Jordan Mancino. Speaking of the band themselves, how it has been working back up the ladder and what it is like to be back in the driving seat with a new name and a new band.

How has Wovenwar been going more importantly!

Oh it’s been really good man, like I said were just getting started. It’s weird, it feels like the record has been out for longer than it has but it hasn’t even been a year yet you know? It’s just a meaningful year for all of us, just getting the record out, touring again just to pull out something new! There are these kind of crossover fans of As I Lay Dying knowing us and yo know coming to watch the band live and getting things that way but also playing in front of new people where it’s like “hey I didn’t realise you guys had a new band” you know? It was intentional the way that we started. We started as a new band, we didn’t want to be like ex members of As I Lay Dying presents Wovenwar.

Not trying to create this all star band, all star project and a lot of people do when their band breaks up. We just wanted to make sure that it was done right. We had built something for so many years and now we want to build something new.

Do you feel that previous fans of As I Lay Dying have kind of crossed over with Wovenwar?

Yeah definitely there’s has been a lot of crossover. I think that the music definitely appeals to both, both crowds. The reason that were out here touring is to reconnect with those fans. It’s going to be a long process that we are willing to take on and are very excited to take on.

After everything that happened did you actively want to go for a different sound with Wovenwar?

We didn’t want to do As I Lay Dying number two but we also didn’t want to do As I Lay Dying with a different singer. We said alright let’s try something new the direction initially it just wasn’t there, we got in a room and just started jamming again and being productive after a month or two of doing that it was time to think about who we wanted to bring in as that fifth member. Then Shane put the vocal tracks on “All Rise” actually, that was one of the songs we had fleshed out and from there it was like, awesome sounds great! We didn’t really know what we wanted until we found it. From there we were like ok cool, let’s write the rest of the record and we wrote the rest of the record with Shane. So we didn’t want to plan on too much until we had that right person.
