A band that need no introduction, known for their fierce reputation both for delivering devastating live performances and for crafted some of the most influential Death Metal out there, this week we see the fathers of Death Metal grace the title of Metal Masterpiece.
Perhaps not a usual classic favourite along the lines of Tomb Of The Mutilated or Butchered At Birth, it holds an incredibly high regard in the bands back catalogue Being the last album with original vocalist and king of all things brutal Chris Barnes it would be a defining moment in Cannibal Corpse’s history. Deciding to change elements from vocal delivery to riffing style, it is arguably when the Death Metal legends began to truly find their own voice.
Creating riffs that are discernible as being some of the band’s finest work, cuts like the horifficly titled “Fucked With A Knife” and “Stripped, Raped, Strangled” have now become corner stones of the band’s live set. Beginning their transformation from the caterpillar era of Chris Barnes into the blossoming butterfly that is Fisher era Cannibal Corpse.
A fitting farewell to our original singer crafting an album that will forever go down in history as one of Cannibal Corpse’s true greats. Not losing the band’s original hunger for creating some of the most visceral material both musically and lyrically, The Bleeding incorporates new elements of groove that the band had forsaken for speed before whilst also ensuring that their repellent subject matter remained. Including a personal favourite of mine the relentless “The Pick Axe Murders“, an undisputed masterpiece in Death Metal.
