Three of metals most iconic frontwomen have collaborated together to form The Sirens, and released a couple of new songs to demonstrate just what they can do.
Anneke van Giersbergen (ex-The Gathering), Liv Kristine, (ex-Theatre of Tragedy, Leaves Eyes), and Kari Rueslåtten (ex-The 3rd and the Mortal) have formed together to create The Sirens. With the concept being developed last year the band has finally come to fruition to female-fronted metal fans that ultimate sound that hardly yet exists. Van Giersbergen commented on the formation:
“The female-fronted scene has become so big all over the world, sometimes it’s hard to believe the three of us were at the very beginning of it, I am very proud of that. Without intentionally wanting to start a new genre, our bands made it okay to sound and look as a girl singer on a metal stage. It was all very new and exciting. I think the tour is great to, in a way, celebrate those early days now that a third-wave of bands is appearing on the scene.”
The band has released two new songs to celebrate the formation, ‘Sisters of the Earth‘ and ‘Embracing the Seasons‘ respectively. Fans of classic female-fronted metal should check this out, as it has the potential to be too over the top, but the music seems to be just right with each vocalist’s strength being used to it’s full potential and mix into the atmospheric music perfectly.
