Slipknot have at long last unleashed their debut single “The Devil In I” not only content with releasing a new song, the band has also released all the details about the new album. Entitled .5: The Gray Chapter, the new album will feature 14 tracks with 2 bonus tracks available. The title of the album itself is a great way to commemorate their former bass player Paul Gray,

Corey Taylor has commented about the band after Paul Gray :

“It was almost like getting to know each other again,” he said. “We were all kind of grieving in our own way and dealing with things in our own way, and knowing that we had to be healthy to go in, we had to be creative to go in, and knowing that we were gonna have to fill this huge void, we just kind of took it upon ourselves to make up for that emptiness by being a little bit of Paul. Like we were all a little bit of Paul in our own way.”

With the album cover being very much in the vein of the teaser videos for other track “The Negative One” I wouldn’t be surprised if the cover was shot by Slipknot’s own Shawn Crahan, but what about single “The Devil In I“? I must say that the song is chock full of melodies, feeling like a combination of the ferocity of Iowa but with all the melody showcased on Vol 3 : The Subliminal Verses, the chorus has a huge hook and has a quintessential creepiness attached to it that Slipknot are so brilliant at attaining, its even got some blast beats in! Its a very much different affair to first song “The Negative One” meaning that I reckon this will be some of the most interesting Slipknot music we’ve heard, whilst also being the first album to be recorded without Paul Gray (R.I.P.) it will also be the first without drummer Joey Jordison. Who as I have said before has been a integral part in the machination of Slipknot. It will be interesting to see if there is a new dimension of sound, which from “The Devil In I” and “The Negative One” sounds like there will be some more experimentation than we all think…
