The wheels have been set in motion for the brand new Mastodon album and it’s going to be a big one.
Currently toiling away at working on their brand new album it has surfaced today that the new record will not just be a follow up to 2014’s Once More ‘Round The Sun but will be a double album. Consisting of one album solely written by Hinds and one written entirely by his band mates it will be interesting to see how the two will coexist.
Inspired by a particularly nasty break up Hinds created an entire album himself based on the experience which he promises will be intriguing :
“My part is called Cold Dark Place – it has to do with a nasty breakup that I went through. I wrote some pretty dark, beautiful, spooky, funky, ethereal, melancholy music.”
It sounds like a fascinating idea and one that of course a band the likes of Mastodon would do. Currently not having even heard any of the music the band have been putting together it will be fascinating to see the band’s songwriting process. Not to mention Hinds gearing up for the release of Giraffe Tongue Orchestra later this year too.
