Gorguts : Watch Pleiades Dust

At the forefront of the avant garde Gorguts stand alone. Returning with a new line up for the absolute tour de force, that was Colored Sands. Earning the accolade of Album of The Year when it was released, the record was not only a study in dissonance but the ideas presented were of a surpremely intellectual nature. Rewind to last year and Gorguts revealed their strike to the scene with their EP, Pleiades’ Dust and now for the first time you can witness it live.

Similar to its predecessor the ideals presented in Pleiades’ Dust are philosophical to say the least. Based on the destruction of man’s first ever library the one track, thirty minute wonder is appropriately ostentatious. Despite it being one long tracks the song works in movements. Introducing new elements not experimented before with the band elements of drone surround the record in its midsection before offering a Doom style riff that would sit comfortably amongst Paradise Lost‘s catalogue.

Shortly before its release the band embarked on a headline tour to promote the record where they performed the entire track live. The sheer technical ability this demands is mindboggling, remaining in time with its trickster tempos is a feat in itself let alone writing the bloody thing! Now solidified with the line up of Colin Marston, Kevin Hufnagel and Patrice Hamelin you can now watch the band school anyone thinking that they might even have a shot at being better that they will always be the kings of Death Metal in the avant garde. Who knows, we might even get a full length! Mind you good things come to those who wait!
