We recently caught up with Skeletonwitch guitarist Scott Hedrick at the band’s London appearance to speak about what exactly is going on in the Skeletonwitch camp. With the departure of long time vocalist Chance Garnette and a new album on the horizon Skeletonwitch begin a new era this year!
Wandering into the aptly titled venue for tonight’s performance at the Underworld I’m greeted with a smiley Scott. Performing for the first time as headliners at the cult venue in London Skeletonwitch are onto bigger and better things. However this doesn’t disparage from the fact that the band have had a change in line up recently. With their long time vocalist, Chance Garnette now being out of the Skeletonwitch picture, just as the band are set to go into the studio to record their new album the winds of change are abound for the band. Sitting down with the cheery guitarist I spoke to Scott about the current state of the band, what the future might hold and what exactly Disney seems to think of Skeletonwitch…
Here is an excerpt of the interview, listen to the SoundCloud file below for the full thing!
“How has Andy himself been settling in, having previously played with bands before so he’s more familiar with the live setting…
It’s been great. We’ve known Andy for over ten years, some of the very first Skeletonwitch shows We ever played were with his other band Battle Master. From Richmond Virginia and we’ve known him that long. We’ve been friends ever since kept in touch sporadically, we’ve always been buddies that’s how far back our introductions go. So we already knew him! We already knew that he toured and was used to the lifestyle. It was just like an old friend, instead of hanging out, we just said why don’t you just come on tour! So in that sense it was really really easy, he’s a hard worker and he has a really good attitude. He’s real funny, he’s goofy and I mean that in the best way possible! He’s a little guy and is always listening to early metal, proto metal he has an Encyclopaedic knowledge of metal, obscure stuff haha! He’s always carrying a portable speaker and jamming tunes everywhere he goes. Listen for the sound of maybe Tank being played on portable stereo and there he is!
Has he been interacting with the crowd?
Absolutely, he’s been at the merch table before the set, talking to people and saying hi. We said look we need someone to sing for this tour and we ultimately need someone to sing on this record and be a permanent member of this band.”
Listen above for the full interview! Skeletonwitch are currently working on their as yet untitled new album set for release later this year on Prosthetic.
