Though Halloween might be falling on this weekend, it would seem that last Friday was when all the ghouls and ghosts went out. Currently on their deadly Inquisitional Tourture tour Cradle of Filth are ensuring that all of Europe are au fait with their phenomenal new release Hammer of The Witches. Lucky for us on their London date we were able to speak to guitarist extraordinaire Richard Shaw. Letting us in on all things Cradle of Filth we spoke to the guitarist regarding what it was like being incoporated into the band, his contributions on the fantastic Hammer of The Witches and it’s writing process and of course some creepy questions for this year’s Halloween. Check out an excerpt below and listen to the full unedited Soundlcloud interview below that!
Who would you say is your favourite horror movie villain? If you had to have one.
Villain, hmm wow! The first one that comes to mind for me is Dracula. He’s almost like the anti villain he like really that kind of villain. It’s more just of what he does and how he acts
It’s a little bit sad..
Yeah! You know what I mean? He’s just the first one that comes to mind for that reason.
So what’s one of the scariest memories that you’ve had?
Scariest memories…
It can be supernatural…
I’ve got one that’s really weird! When I was at university in Guildford, we had moved into this cottage, me and some friends because the rent was an absolute steal. When we walked in we found out why, it was a great cottage! We were like this is amazing this is too good to be true! And no word of a lie the first night that we were in there, we all went in our separate rooms and we all heard this massively loud bang. All at the same time, we were like that’s a bit weird, then all of a sudden I got a knock on my door and apparently we all ran out of our rooms at the same time going, “was that you?” and we all had a knock on our doors at exactly the same time. Then we went back to bed and we all got a knock on our window all at the same time and we were like “right this is a bit weird now”.
Shining territory…
Yeah! I was never a big believer in stuff like that until it happened but the next night we didn’t have anything but for the first night we were all like “that’s a little bit weird…” still to this day we can’t really explain it. So I’m not saying I’m a believer but it makes you think.
There’s a reason you’re in Cradle Of Filth!
