A Bloodstock Interview With : Jon and Gavin (Bast)

Performing for the first time at this year’s Bloodstock we see Bast once again inching their way up the metaphorical doom ladder. Having previously supported Pallbearer on their most recent European tour the band are simply growing from strength to strength. Amidst the musical madness that was Bloostock we were able to speak to both Jon and

from the band. Speaking of what the future might hold for the band, what their opinion on the concept album is and of course, what’s going on with that new material…

Is it the first time that you have toured Europe?

Jon : Touring yeah, we’ve done a few like shows. We did Roadburn.

We did France a couple of times as well, like a spattering of the odd thing here and there.

Jon: We did Into The Woods Fest in Leovaden

It was the first kind of extensive amount of consecutive gigs that we’ve done.

What a time to do it though! The second leg was in the European heatwave. No air conditioning on the van so that was interesting.

We’ve been in some clapper of a van that’s got like no air conditioning and it was brutal. A lot of the days we were out there and when we were in the Netherlands it was the hottest day since records began. We played in a room with no air con. We drove there in a van with no air con, it was VERY hot.

So what can we expect later on in the year from Bast?

We’re just going to buckle down and write some new material, we’ve got a few sort of bits done. We played some new material earlier as well but we just really want to focus on writing a new album.

Yeah, the focus this time round is more writing and less playing. We’ve done almost two years of this album.

Yeah like two and a half? And that’s just pushing Spectres and people seem to love it but we need to give them some new material!

Bast will soon be working on new material for their brand new album.
