Among the thousands of fantastic releases this year so far we see yet another record unleashed upon the unsuspecting masses. Sweden’s own Dew Scented have been major players in the Thrash Metal arena. Releasing their brand new album Intermination the band’s tenth effort we were lucky enough to be able to catch up with vocalist and head honcho Leif Jensen. Speaking about the brand new record, we asked what themes we could expect from the new material, what his views on the current state of Thrash Metal in the modern world were and future plans this year containing an exclusive reveal of a release coming later this year with some Spanish friends…
Was it daunting having these members in the band, obviously you have been with them for three years but this would be the first occasion where you would actually record together?
Interesting question, I never thought about it so I guess it wasn’t! By seeing with how we interacted over the last three years and by how relaxed and professional the vibe is, these are some of the most relaxed guys I have ever encountered. You know we have a very good togetherness between each other, which makes a lot of the drama that maybe a band and also ourselves usually goes through. Makes it look easy, you know, so I think I sort of knew what I was getting myself into.
I expected a certain level of quality to be delivered by the guys because they have high standards themselves.
I think this record means just as much or maybe even more to them than it means to myself. I mean I do have a little bit of a routine there, so I’m not saying that the record means less to them actually. That’s bullshit, it means a lot to everyone! It’s just that I have a certain routine with this being our tenth studio album so I have a little bit of an easier time, crafting my part from experience and from the history of our repertoire. They came through and the more I was hearing the songs, the more I was feeling the flow of the record you know when we have sort of two, three for songs all of a sudden ten songs, I could evaluate what was coming up. I was like “wow this is really really good” and I this its going to lead the band into a good position. After so many years to still be able to have something to say and to offer something to people that care about this style.
Once again this is merely an excerpt of our chat with Leif Jensen the main man behind the genius that is Dew Scented. To listen to the full interview click the Soundcloud link below.
