Josh Homme, the frontman of Queens of the Stone Age, recently shared that he had been diagnosed with cancer last year.
In an interview with Revolver, he revealed that he underwent successful surgery to remove the cancer, but the experience added to the difficulties he was already facing due to his messy divorce from Brody Dalle.
Although Homme didn’t provide specific details about the type of cancer he had, he assured fans that he is in recovery, although he still experiences occasional pain. Despite the challenges he has faced, Homme maintains a positive outlook, stating, “I never say it can’t get any worse. I never say that, and I wouldn’t advise it. But I do say it can get better.”
Reflecting on his journey, Homme described cancer as an additional hurdle during an already tumultuous period in his life. Nevertheless, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to overcome it and viewed it as a transformative experience that would ultimately make him stronger. He expressed enthusiasm for the future, noting that there are many things he still wants to accomplish and many people he wants to share those experiences with.
During his recovery, Homme found solace in creating music and described it as both therapy and a spiritual practice. He acknowledged that while he had undergone therapy over the past couple of years, it was ultimately through music that he found the means to move forward. Despite initially lacking the desire to make a new record due to personal challenges, Homme explained that creating music was an integral part of his coping process and served as a refuge during difficult times.
In the midst of his recovery, Homme and Queens of the Stone Age have been working on their upcoming eighth album, titled “In Times New Roman…,” set to be released through Matador this week. The band plans to support the album with a series of shows in 2023, including dates in various countries.
Josh Homme’s journey through cancer and personal struggles has undoubtedly shaped his perspective, but his resilience and dedication to music remain unwavering. With his health on the mend, he looks forward to continuing his musical endeavors and connecting with audiences around the world.
