Bouncing back from 2013’s Habitual Levitations the band decided to go for a more all out agressive approach. Detailing the meticulous writing processes that the band went through, along with the monolithic time spent in the studio, a total time of four days… We were able to speak to Intronaut guitarist Sacha Dunable. Kindly explaining some of the processes behind the record and what made the band decide to opt for a more organic sound for their latest outing. Listen to the full unedited interview on the Soundcloud link below.

I’ve heard that the recording took you four days, is that right?

It is true that we did all of the basic tracks in four days, yeah. It was a little bit tight, in hindsight we probably could have used one more to day to be completely comfortable with it because whilst we were there the studio had a couple of problems which cut out like half a day here and there. The whole idea was that, we would just come in prepared and instead of spending three weeks obsessing over every little take and every little nuance of every little song, just make sure that we have it well rehearsed in advance and then just go in and just play it. Eventually we have to do that to play the songs live and I think we kind of learned that when we did the live recording with Cloudkicker last year.

In the middle of a tour, a friend of ours offered up his recording studio for a few hours, why don’t you just load in and record and we did. It sounded so good that we released it as a record. We thought why can’t we just do that with the Intronaut record too? Of course there were a couple of days after where we did vocals and maybe some guitar overdubs here and there, but yeah it was a pretty quick process and honestly I think it was cool for a couple of reasons. One that you’re not hitting yourself over the head so much with these songs that you’re sick of them by the time you finish the record and also the product actually just sounds like a real band playing. Even though it is a polished Metal record, that is a performance, that is us playing the songs, it just kind of has an energy that perhaps the last couple of records didn’t quite have.

So it brings it back to a kind of old school kind of vibe?
