Why It’s Hard For Your Favourite Band to Tour Internationally

Consequences of Sound have published a lengthy article as to why bands struggle with touring worldwide – it’s a pretty morbid outlook on the reality of touring, but it is a very interesting read for those who want to know why bands cancel are often forced to cancel visits.

The article centre’s around international artists touring the United States, which for the small European metal band has been an increasingly difficult task looking at the number of bands that have been forced to abandon tours in 2015. Read a small excerpt here. Link to the full article is below:

“Despite how early Makthaverskan began the process, the band had to cancel shows because of delays. Between lawyers, express fees, booking new flight tickets, and going to Vienna to try and expedite the process, the band lost more than $10,000 that they attribute to visa issues. Even with a $5,000 grant they received from the Swedish government, they lost $10,000 on their first US tour and $5,000 on their second. Accounting for taxes, tour managers, vans, and accommodations, the band says that “the expenses never stop.”

It is really a sobering thought to think that international touring is getting more and more difficult for our favourite metal bands, especially since more and more bands are relying on heavy touring to support themselves and the band.
