The Morbid Angel Saga Explained

First off, let me just say that it seems to be evermore recurring that bands all fall apart at the seams. With the mass exodus that was Chimaira, then we saw the departure of all save Keene for The Faceless and now it would seem the same has happened to Morbid Angel.

Touring on last year’s Summer Slaughter tour along with some European dates celebrating their album Covenant where it was played in it’s entirety it would seem that some members are more into the music than others… Kicking things off we saw the departure of Tim Yeung. After hearing that Steve Tucker and Trey Azagthoth would be creating new music together the drummer decided to exit.

This then led to people thinking that David Vincent was out of Morbid Angel, which he was not. Replying with this statement :

“I am aware of Trey Azagthoth’s announcement of a collaboration with Steve Tucker on new music. However, the inference that I have left Morbid Angel is incorrect. To be clear, I have not left Morbid Angel nor have I been asked to do so.”

Then things got a little hairier as Steve Tucker took to Facebook to essentially the Mick out of David Vincent and his claim that he is still in Morbid Angel, this would give the appearance that all things were pointing to a Queensryche like state of two bands arguing over a name…

Here are a few answers to questions that I keep getting asked …
What’s up with David? I don’t have a fucking clue , and I don’t think that I am the only one .
Is Pete Sandoval coming back ?
I fucking wish that would happen !!!
Will there be both myself and David in MA ?
Hahahahhahhahahaha
Sorry man I play death metal , so, NO.
Who will play second guitar?
Time will answer that one…

And last but not least, will Warfather continue?
Absolutely ! We track the new album in 3 weeks at mana studios , with my brother Erik Rutan producing !

Then it was announced that guitarist Destructhor had decided to leave the band as well, stating that he wanted to work on his other band Myrkskog in a statement made to Blabbermouth which you can see here :

“I would like to announce that I, Destructhor, as well am out of Morbid Angel. Due to issues of them wanting to work with someone more local. Actually pretty good news to me, since I personally decided to leave Morbid Angel after the last tour we did in Europe in November/December 2014. It is definitely time for me to move on with the Norwegian extreme act Myrkskog. This is where I truly belong and exciting things are happening! A new record is being released next year with coming tours, festivals and so on. So it’s time to step it up and prepare for war with my Norwegian/Swedish brothers in Myrkskog. As for Morbid Angel, I wish them all the best with everything! It’s been a lot of great experiences! No hard feelings at all and may the future bring us all to another dimension!”

We finally have some form of resolution where it looks like Vincent has indeed bowed out. Instead of there being two Morbid Angel’s one being David Vincent and the other being Trey Azagthoth and vocalist Steve Tucker from the sounds of it there will only be the latter with David Vincent’s brand new statement. What this holds for the future we don’t know, hopefully that might have cleared it up for you. I know I was scratching my head for a while!

I had good communication with Trey yesterday and we agree that there are incompatibilities with regards to us working together.

Trey and I have accomplished amazing things together over the past 30 years and I wish him the best with his future projects. Out of respect for the legacy of these accomplishments, I encourage Morbid Angel fans to not take sides because, I am not.

I look forward to sharing my new endeavors with all of you in the near future. Until then, stay Morbid! ~David Vincent
