This Monday we see the release of some of the most hotly anticipated albums of the year. Ensuring that metal gets its last gasp in, the month of November is pretty much the final possiblilty to get new releases out and make those all important end of year lists!
This week is a big one. With potentially the biggest release in Amazon’s history the pre-orders for Pink Floyd’s brand new studio album The Endless River eclipsing previous record holders One Direction and rightly so! The album itself has been heralded as a defining moment for Floyd’s history and some believe should have laid the ghost to rest and not decide to create another album. This will in fact be Pink Floyd’s last album when asked about the record guitarist David Gilmour stated “I think we have successfully commandeered the best of what there is … It’s a shame, but this is the end.“
On the other end of the spectrum we have metal overlords Machine Head seeing the release of their brand new opus Bloodstone & Diamonds. On the surface seeming similar to much of Machine Head’s previous work but on further listens is sounding a lot more evocative and ultimately the band are finally pushing the boat out. Don’t get me wrong this isn’t like the band above and Floydian levels of experimentation but its nice to finally hear something that the band are doing which is new. Never fear though as all the hallmarks of classic Machine Head are still there, the borderline classical sounding guitar trade off’s, bridge’s that are as heavy as a ten ton hammer and Robb Flynn’s characteristic gasps… Bloodstone and Diamonds is released today and is arguably the biggest metal release of the year, listen to the full album stream here.
Job For A Cowboy however have stunned audiences all over, with their slow release of three tracks that showcased elements of the band we had never heard before. Instead of remaining in the dying breed of deathcore the band opted to take time out, truly master their instruments and return with Sun Eater, what could be arguably the death metal album of the year. Although competition is extremely tough this year! You can also stream their entire new album here.
Last but not least in our four horsemen are the progressive masters Ne Obliviscaris with the release of their brand new album Citadel. Before heading on a tour with the excellent Canadian exports Beyond Creation the band release their new effort with technical elements and an ambient feel throughout. Experimenting with violins, clean vocals and various other instruments the band have returned for the second album to deliver a thought provoking new record.
Not bad for just the one week! Make sure to check back next Monday for all the new releases in the metal world!
