Spotify recently underwent a study to find which fans are most loyal to there genre’s, and metal won by a mile!
Spotify employed research company the echo nest to undertake the study and the end result was the chart above, finding that metalheads were more loyal to their music than any other subgenre.
The methodology carried out was that Spotify identified the most listened to artists in metal and labelled them as ‘core’ – these included bands like Metallica, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Pantera, Sepultura and Judas Priest. They generated a loyalty number by dividing the number of streams the artist had with the number of listeners, then using a normalisation equation to match up the numbers with other subgenres.
It’s always interesting to see where metal stands in the world. So many theories fly around and too many times people put forward false psychological analyses of metal and their fans. In this case, the numbers don’t lie – metalheads are awesome!
