Fans of Old School Death Metal will no doubt remember the force to be reckoned with that was Gruesome. Their debut self titled full length ticked all of the classic Death Metal boxes and now the band are back with an EP and we can hear “Raped By Darkness“.
Potentially one of the most honoured Horror films of our time, Evil Dead still sits atop as one of the best of the bunch. With The Black Dahlia Murder having previously made a homage with the beautifully titled “Raped In Hatred By Vines Of Thorn” now Gruesome will be doing the same.
Fans of Horror the band explain their reasoning behind the choice of their new track.
When I was nine or ten-years-old, it was a never-ending ordeal to convince someone’s parent or guardian to rent R-rated, or even better, unrated, horror movies for me and my friends to watch. Sometimes I would just browse the aisles and be captivated by the cover art for movies like Street Trash, Future Kill, and Basket Case, which I never actually got to see until much later. Despite, or maybe because of, their limited availability, I lived for gory flicks like The Toxic Avenger, Re-Animator, Hellraiser, and Evil Dead, which is what this song is based around.
I have got to say if there ever were two genres that were perfect for each other it would always be Metal and Horror. Listen to the rack and pick up the bands EP when it drops on May 20th via Relapse.
