Just when you think djent is running the risk of becoming stale, along comes another band that does something that turns your head again and makes you scratch your neckbeard in solemn approval for the duration of the recording. This time around, Sacramento metallers Ghost/Aeon have given us something to think about with their debut release ‘Metanoia‘.

It was the track ‘Diverge‘ in fact that brought me to the attention of the band. As the opener of the EP, you might as well come out and say that it grabs you by the spine and holds a rodeo with it. Brutal, well-produced djent that has those zeroes in all the wrong places with a lot of hyper-technical shredding thrown in the mix, exactly how we like it.

Indeed it seems that the band have written this EP with the live performance in mind with a lot of crushing moments that could potential give fans to move and headbang to those off-signature riffs – tracks like ‘AEwaken‘ are prime elements that could demonstrate the bands worth in the live arena and surely a crowd pleaser.

Ghost/Aeon show they are a band that are serious about their future demonstrating a lot of musical diversity in tracks like ‘Sinking‘ demonstrating their ability to use melodic choruses in between the heavy zeroes and vocal ranges spanning the lows and highs of death metal and power-pop. This is what truly makes ‘Metanoia‘ an intriguing piece, and sits very highly on my recommendation scale for 2016 musical purchases.

[why]It appears Ghost/Aeon created this EP solely to crush your bones into powder, and completely evaporate your faces. In that regard, they succeed. A simply excellent debut.[/why]
