Underdogs in the Death Metal arena, Decrepit Birth have finally announced their brand new album Axis Mundi will be released on July 24th and here’s why you should all care.
Having had somewhat of a hard time over here in Blighty, there was one instance where I was given the opportunity to see Decrepit Birth. Putting together an alldayer style festival way back in 2012, the line up featured headliners Cryptopsy, Cattle Decapitation as support and Decrepit Birth. Owing to the incredibly irritating situation with the ferry, Decrepit Birth’s set had been cut as the bands simply just didn’t have any time! Fast forward five years and the band who have been teasing new material for ages have finally unearthed their genius once more.
If you’re unfamiliar with the band, they are progenies in the Technical Death Metal world. With first release …And Time Begins the band focused on perfecting their rhythmic playing, with all of the album containing trickster time signatures and less of the melodic solos that comprised their 2010 effort, Polaris. Building on this in 2010 the band then released the technical hoop jump that was Polarity. Utilising far more melody the album became somewhat of a cult classic among Technical Death Metal fans. Featuring yet another cover by renown artist Dan Seagrave, the tone was one of introspective, philosophical thought towards the life, theĀ universe and everything, similar to Obscura if you will.
Following long winded, even bordering on irritating lengths of teasing the day has finally come that we will see new material from the band but not only that! Premiering their first single “Epigenetic Triplicty” the track combines the best of both of these differing worlds, the technical proficiency of …And Time Begins with the melodic leads of Polarity. It might have been seven years since their last release but bursting out of the gates with this, Decrepit Birth have definitely made the wait worthwhile. With the newly announced signing of the band to Nuclear Blast Records in the states, hopefully the Californian shredders will at last get the recognition they so sorely deserve. They might just be some of the brightest stars in the Technical Death Metal galaxy…
Decrepit Birth’s brand new album Axis Mundi is out via Nuclear Blast (US) and Agonia (Rest of World) July 24th.
