Album Review : Zhrine – Unortheta

Misery is often a hard emotion to convey in the form of music. An abstract idea to mirror such an emotionally charged subject matter can often lead to backfiring ideas. However approached in the right way misery can ooze class, hailing from Iceland Zhrine begin their ascent on a major label with the debut Unortheta.

Album Review : Black Stone Cherry – Kentucky

Ever growing in their popularity Black Stone Cherry recently marked their ten year anniversary with a string of arena dates. Returning to the ground of their first ever UK performance in Birmingham where ten years later the band have swapped dingy pubs for sold out arenas. A sense of patrioticism is incredibly important for our Southern rockers, as a homage to their native land Kentucky brings elements from the past, present and future in a southern drawl. Album Review : Zakk Wylde – The Book Of Shadows II

Having been around for thirty plus years the band have been slowly but surely adapting their sound without leaving their roots.  Marrying the dirt ridden grooves from Stephen Carpenter with the shrill and drunken stumbling lyrics of Chino Moreno the band have come to create winning and esoteric formula. Returning from their four year sejourn at last the band create their follow up.

Album Review : Ihsahn – Arktis

Of one of the worlds pioneering explorers, Shackleton’s story is an admirable one. Racing to the discovery of the North Pole. Owing to our pursuit of  vested interests experimentation has become integrated in discovery. Previously achieving new heights with band Emperor the man essentially birthed a new sound in the oversaturated Black Metal aesthetic. Once again going against the grain the singer / songwriter shows us yet another facet to his limitless abstract ideals.

Ukrainian Melodic Metallers Scarleth has had quite a rugged journey since their formation in 2005 by founding member, Victor Morozov (guitar).  Battling through an immense amount of lineup changes throughout their career, where many bands would have called it quits.  Luckily, Morozov held his determination, and now Scarleth released two full-length studio albums.
