After Black Sabbath’s Hyde Park show on Friday 4th of July, the band were presented with a plaque to commemorate worldwide sales of over a million copies for their comeback album ’13’.
The album was released just over a year ago in June 2013 and met universal critical acclaim. The album also marked the first recording that Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler have done together in over 35 years, with original drummer Bill Ward left out of the reunion over a contract dispute. Bill Ward was replaced by Ozzy’s solo drummer Tommy Clufetos for the album recording and live shows.
The album topped the billboard charts in the United States reaching No. 1 for the very first time in Black Sabbath history with 386’000 records sold in the country alone. Ozzy spoke:
I never say never. I never thought after 35 years I’d [be back with Black Sabbath], have a No. 1 record and a sold-out tour.”
The success of ’13’ led Geezer Butler to comment that there are loose plans in the works for a follow up to the album.
