Having announced that they were in the studio just before the year was out Between The Buried And Me released news that their brand new album will be the most ambitious yet. Releasing details surrounding the new release we found out that the rock opera will be about a man who is in a coma that chooses to gravitate through various plains. Explaining that he has the choice to advance further in search of something more perfect, or more to the point his definition of perfect he cannot go back. Now we can unveil the first track to come from the new album, “Memory Palace” truly sets the scene fantastically!
The first track is quintessentially Between The Buried And Me, opening with a funky lead line, the groove is prominent throughout the song. With the main riff sounding like something that 007 would be hearing whilst battling in space. It traverses the usual sonic plains that Between The Buried And Me float over. Moving from Floydian soundscapes to the carnival of Tommy Rogers‘ vocals never cease to amaze and this is no exception, though personally the highlight for me is when BTBAM assemble get into a driving riff (5:50) if you want to be precise. The slightly off balance timing that the band use creates a fantastic element of tension. The perfect introduction to what could potentially be the bands best release to date.
