Eluveitie have been on a rocket ride to the top of their game for the better part of the last decade. It’s arguable to say that the band have set an incredible standard for folk metal with the series of folk instrument virtuosos that fused with death metal riffing. Bringing their latest album ‘Origins’ to London we catch up with frontman Chrigel Glanzmann to ask a few questions about how Eluveitie continues to pioneer such complex music.
Asking about a new album, Chrigel reveals that the band is working on ‘Evocation II‘, the long lost acoustic concept we honestly were not sure would ever see the light of day. We excitedly ask a couple questions as to what the themes and instrumentation of the continuation will be…
When the tour does come to a close is a new album going to be the focus of the band?
Yep. We’re actually working on it, and it’s going to be the second part of the Evocation, the acoustic concept.
Yea, we’ve actually been wondering about that for a while – as you did Evocation I and [the concept] sort of disappeared. So it’s going to kind of continue off from Evocation I?
Yep.
Is there a name for Evocation II yet?
Yes. But it’s not officially announced…
So we can’t know? Fair enough! Have all the songs been written for the new album?
No not yet, we’re still working on it. We plan to go to the studio next year.
How do you actually write your songs? Do you have a concept in mind and just kind of jam out?
Usually we just pass out and in the morning there’s a couple new songs…no not really! [laughs]
Just a lot of Jagermeister and that’s it?
Oh no not Jager! Jesus Christ…Usually in the past it has been like that, there’s been a concept for the song first. To me personally that’s kind of important to kind of get a picture of the whole album before we start working on it, and then on all the songs…
