There’s no point in being dishonest here, the only reason we are taking a look at this album is because of the ludicrous name of the band. It’s so straight to the point that it could actually make for an interesting listen…but then again it is grindcore…

Grindcore has never really been my forte. I have only ever listened to it for pure humour value, as either the song titles are album art are so grotesque it is hilarious, and you know these bands are not taking themselves to seriously. I am not sure if there is any sense of elitism in the genre, like someone who can listen to the music on a constant basis and tell one good grindcore band from the other. Admittedly I am not one of those people, but I do have a very slapstick sense of humour, and subsequently I must review SpermBloodShit, and their next masterpiece, ‘Obliteration From Beyond’!
Expecting to be faced with an instant onslaught of hyperfast blast beats in the opening ‘Outpost 31‘, that was oddly not the case. What I got was a post-hardcore interlude with a few standard film samples discussing disembowelment…but then that moment where one is like ‘oh there it is’ comes with the frantic grind blasting in ‘The Sub-Zero Menace‘.
What is fairly interesting about SpermBloodShit’s sound however is that the band make use of a thicker hardcore-esque distortion that progressively defines their base sound as the album goes on. That hardcore drive actually distinguish’s them from other grindcore bands. That must be a first for the genre!
With a more hardcore edge to the album’s sound it definitely makes the band stand out, but let’s not forget the band do want to fit into that grindcore genre, and the album all the way through is pretty insane. Most songs are under two minutes and packed with complete madness both lyrically and musically with completely unstructured songs, and what is seemingly sounding like personal challenges of who can make the sloppiest song.
Tracks like ‘Pre-Biotic Fluid‘ are things you could see as coming off live very well, but as far as the recorded music goes this is just enough to force a lot of metal fans to give it a brief listen and then throw in the towel. Having said that I am sure there are a lot of metal fans that thrive on this kind of craziness.
Quite frankly the name of the band describes the whole ‘Obliteration from Beyond‘ experience. A soundtrack to a socio-path with chronic diarrhoea that is simultaneously cutting himself and frantically masturbating.

[why]If you need more in your metal than total lunacy then you might want to pass on this. If lunacy is your bread and butter, look no further.[/why]
