For those who might have just joined us, this year we’re getting in the festive mood the best way. Count down the days until Christmas both myself and Chris will be releasing our favourite albums on the run up to the holiday. In the style of an Advent Calendar I shall be posting on the even days and Chris on the odd days!
1 – Jakub Zyteki | Wishful Lotus Proof
2 – Agent Fresco | Destrier
3 – Cain’s Offering | Stormcrow
And today we see
Tesseract – Polaris
A true pioneer strives to create a unique experience whatever the criteria. Bursting onto the scene with their fantastic One album, the band went through some slight line up changes only coming back stronger with their second more focused effort Altered State. Catapulting them into the spotlight of Modern Metal their inventiveness didn’t stop there. Being the first band to ever play on a stage made entirely made of ice the band are seemingly borne to break any bndaries. Not only releasing their first live CD DVD combo the band also propelled humanity into their latest vision Polaris.
Having rejoined the band this year previous singer Dan Tompkins had perhaps an amount to prove. From the instant that the record begins the singer rightfully claims his name. Acting simultaneously as an accessible listen whilst also being able to engulf the listener it’s extra terrestrial world if needed Polaris is simply a masterstroke. Interlude’s brings a sense of continuity throughout the record yet with the songs being a shorter length with an identifiable and accessible chorus each song is at once part of a grand scheme whilst also being a beautiful Modern Metal vignette. Never over staying their welcome the band acts as a unit, contrary to many of the other progressive acts which seems to aspect become a musical assault course.
Tracks like the surging “Hexes“, “Tourniquet” and personal favourite “Survival” showcase just how visionary the band are even in their infancy. Given their near faultless reputation, with this being their third album if they play their cards right Tesseract could very well be talked about for years to come over pub tables the world over. If Metal is moving into a new age here are it’s leaders thriving on originality, instantly accessible, beautifully written and technically sound Polaris is absolutely essential.
Did you love being spaced out as much as me? Then you can pick up Polaris here!
