Being in a band is hard enough as it is in the same city. Slice The Cake are the combined efforts from players from all over the world. Ranging from Australia, Sweden and to the UK the band have been slowly releasing material and now have two albums under their belt. Making their first EVER live appearance at this year’s Tech Fest we were able to have a quick chat with vocalist and all round nice guy Gareth Mason. Contrary to his on stage persona, the frontman was a polite mild mannered individual. We sat down to speak to him about performing for the first time ever, what we might be seeing from Slice The Cake later this year and what it has been like keeping a band together from all different corners of the globe…
How has it been, as you’re not not the most conventional band going, well you’ve got people living in different countries! How is it to keep a band together, yet not be in the same place?
It’s interesting, the best comparison I think that I can make is like people in long distance relationships. It requires shitloads of work you know, am I allowed to swear? Yeah it requires a lot of work and communication and of course that is kind of a bit stilted over the Internet. You know you can use body language, at times I has been stressful but we’ve held it together somehow I don’t know! We just talk through our issues as and when they arise and like the musical side is fine, that’s not really even that difficult it’s just the personal stuff that has taken time to fall into place.
What, to kind of get to know each other?
Well we know each other really well at this point but you know we’re artists! We butt heads with each other, me and jack are both like conceptual divas haha! We’re like two heads of the same coin so we butt heads loads but we love each other really so it’s cool!
