Whilst attending our first ever Tech Fest, when we weren’t busy listening to some of the fantastic live acts announced we were lucky to be able to speak to a select few bands that were performing at the festival. Over the coming days, we shall invite you to join us to see what the band’s had to say about the festival.
Up first we have the lovely lads from Nexilva. Being Tech Fest veterans we thought what better way to kick things off! Having released their album Eschatologies the band have been performing all over the UK and garnering a staggering support. Shown by their excellent performance at Friday’s instalment of the festival. Though prior to disintegrating people’s minds the band were able to have a quick chat to us about the festival itself, what we might be expecting later on in the year and what it’s like to be such a young band doing so well in this modern age!
Listening to Eschatologies, it seems that youve got quite a varied set of influences , from Meshuggah and a little Cattle Decapitation even!
I think it’s interesting because we don’t actually listen to a lot of metal really, so like influence wise we literally just take from anything. Obviously Connor is the main writing force, he’ll just come in and say right, I’ve got a new song lads. It’s crazy! Then takes us fuckin’ months to learn it haha! Most of the time driving to a show, Metal will be the last thing on the playlist. We’ll be thinking “right lets just some Justin Timberlake on the playlist, some Radio One pop!”.
Is that because you guys don’t want to listen to Metal before you play metal?
I think it’s just because I enjoy that music! Obviously I love Metal and love playing metal but its nice to branch out. It would be like reading the same book over and over again. You need to read othe things and expand your knowledge. I think that listening to other music really helps that sort of growth as well. You’re more open to other things as well! I think that a lot of people at this festival are in that same vibe as well because everyone here is either a musician or well aware of what it’s about. So i think they have a deeper appreciation for what goes on behind the scenes musically and stuff which is always nice!
As ever this is just a small snippet of our chat with the Nexilva boys, listen to the full interview on our Soundcloud page below! Listen to the crushing “Necromancer” before you do though!
Keep your ears peeled for many more Tech Fest interviews coming your way this week!
