Poised to release their brand new album later this year Heart Of A Coward have been growing from strength to strength. With their previous release, the Danny Dyer loving Severance, reaching out to fans all over the world it has seen the band grow exponentially. At Tech Fest since it’s infancy the band have slowly been climbing up the musical food chain, leading to their absolutely incredible performance at Saturday’s headliner slot complete with an appearance of the Sweetness Owl! Before that however we were lucky enough to be able to speak to both the delightful Carl Ayers and Vishal Khetia about the new album, what it means to be head lining this year’s festival and how they have come to have such an extensive fanbase!
What was filming the video for Hollow like?
Carl : Awesome! Mate, literally that is the only video that we have done where we didn’t have to go to like London or something. That video was shot a minute and a half from my doorstep. I literally walked out shot the video, then home, bed, done. It was so good haha! Honestly though man it was really cool, our friend Josh Gurner who plays bass in Hacktivist he shot the video for us and he has done a killer job. He knows what he is doing!
Vishal : If you want videos hit up Josh! Shout out to Joshy G wagwan haha!
You guys have quite a kind of Tech Metal sound, but I think there is a certain element of Hardcore in the delivery?
Carl : The thing is that I always thought that we didn’t really have a Tech Metal kind of sound?
Vishal : The riffs are so easy man! It’s more about rhythm than Tech, as I said I grew up listening Necrophagist and learning those songs, this is not Tech. It’s just about songs that sound good and translate in a live setting. People call it Hardcore, we don’t give a fuck what it’s called, we just write the music that sounds good. It may sound Hardcore to someone’s ears or Djent to someone else’s but we’ve just written songs that just translate to good songs.
Carl : It’s weird though, we can come to somewhere like Tech Fest and we can play a show like this and people enjoy the music and call it Tech but then we go to With Full Force, play the Hardcore stage and they’re all like you’re one of my favourite Hardcore bands!
As per usual this is merely just a section from the interview, listen to the full interview below!
