A Taste of Hardcore in Brazil

We often see particular countries associated with certain brands of metal. When foreigners think of Brazilian bands we think of thrash and progressive. Anguere attempts to change all that.

Brazil is a very interesting country in terms of music. It has produced some fantastic bands both within the confines of the Brazilian borders, and of course internationally. With such a diverse culture, many unique elements have poured in to their music such as the tribal music of the Amazon in Sepultura, and the anti-establishment forte of Krisiun. With Brazilian bands trying to break out of the country, it’s often you find that these bands tend to adapt their musical output to reach certain audiences throughout the world. But there are exceptions.

Notably Charlie Brown Jr. was one of them who wrote their lyrics almost exclusively in Portuguese, and had a massive impact in Brazil and drew eyes on to them worldwide with their unique output of hardcore and alternative rock.

One band that seeks the next level of domination though is Anguere, pushing that aggressive hardcore sound to the next level. Formed in Rio Claro in 2008, the band have been rising through the Brazilian metal ranks to a point where they are getting worldwide attention through their unique hardcore sound and their aggressive lyrics highlight the local society issues in what is soon to become a country of massive importance in the world. A band that really caught my attention through that ‘don’t give a fuck’ attitude that continues to spurn through their progressive brand of crossover thrash, and one that is to watch. We don’t see too much new hardcore these days, but Anguere could be leading the revolution!
