A Bloodstock Interview With : Cristiano (Fleshgod Apocalypse)

Gearing up for the release of the sophomore effort after 2013’s The Labyrinth Fleshgod Apocalypse are busy writing and recording their brand new record. Entitled King, the album will be revolving around a concept, keeping their cards fairly close to their chest about the matter we were able to have a chat with Cristiano to see if we could find out a little more. Before their decimating headline appearance at this year’s Bloodstock we caught up with Cristiano Trionfera discussing among others, the brand new album, what is like to try and co-ordinate a band as intricate as Fleshgod Apocalypse and what some of the guitarists influences might be!

LISTEN TO THE LIVE INTERVIEW BELOW THIS PARAGRAPH :

Do you write the music as per the concept?

Yeah, I would say that this is something that we have always kind of done in a way. Because we decide we start with an idea, or a couple of ideas. Saying ok it would be great if we could talk about this and develop it as a concept. Even in a metaphorical way we always like to give a form to the story and in this case, the title of the album is King. In some way it gives it away for what it could be like but we really want it to be as epic as we know it is even in the details.

Because Labyrinth is a concept album as well…

Exactly, it’s the same concept let’s say, no no no, same idea let’s put it that way. With Labyrinth we wanted to touch some different aspects of a story which was already there obviously, the classic myth, but we wanted it to be ours so we wanted to speak about the characters and how they could be a metaphor for us today. It’s all we do, we always try to describe what we see as our reality, not only what we don’t like in our reality but also what we like in some way. Human relationships for example, I know it sounds a little bit too romantic for Fleshgod music but in some way it is. We like to be romantic about our concepts and our music in some way is romantic or post romantic so it makes sense!
