New York hardcore is possibly the most notorious of Hardcore elites with Sick Of It All, Bad Brains, Death Before Dishonour,H20, Gorilla Biscuits and Cro Mags to name a few. It was a movement that has since been influential among the hardcore scene. Any band that was to come out of the NYHC was practically indoctrinated into any hardcore fan’s perception of hardcore. And now, after too long a time NYHC New York Hardcore 1980 – 1990 has been written. The book, due out in November has been written by Tony Rettman, chronicles all that was NYHC in its heyday between the 90’s and the 80’s from the fierce rivalry with neighbouring cities (Boston, springs to mind) to the age old definition of hardcore itself.
Hardcore itself is a strange entity, often telling of brotherhood’s and sticking together leaving no man behind, yet it seems to be the genre with the most animosity and stigma when it comes to the fans themselves even in the classification of what is deemed to be “hardcore” there have been fierce arguments. NYHC New York Hardcore 1980 – 1990 hopefully will illuminate some of the myths with the facts on these trivial subject matters that seem to get to every fan.
NYHC New York Hardcore 1980 – 1990 is out in November and will be distributed by Bazillion Points Books.
