It is with a heavy heart that I write this today.
I remember being fourteen at the time, somewhat of a newbie in the realm of Metal. Slowly spreading my proverbial wings and discovering many different bands Architects were one of the few bands that have remained with me since my days of discovery right up until their brand new release All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us. Progressing in both their song writing and lyrical content the band have now become flag bearers for the Metalcore movement of the UK in the modern day and were fast rising to the top of their game. For those who have seen One Hundred Days, the band’s close knit film you’ll see just a snapshot no doubt of just what this lovely man offered the world and we are all lucky enough to be able to rejoice in his wonderful music brought forward in Architects.
Releasing arguably their strongest output to date we weren’t aware of guitarist and founding member Tom Searle’s struggle with cancer. Cancelling all festival appearances in order to help in the man’s recovery sadly it wasn’t quite enough. Writing some of my favourite riffs that will always remind me of being somewhat younger Tom Searle’s memory will live on far beyond the constraints of time. At this time Architects have announced that they will be touring the album cycle for All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us but after that the future is uncertain.
Read the full statement from the band’s Facebook and put Ruin, Hollow Crowd, Daybreaker whatever it is, regardless of if you’re a fan and honour this young man’s memory.
Regardless of genre interest the man was simply a twenty eight year old living and loving life, sadly we say goodbye to you Tom. Rest in peace.
