Following the band’s recent return with their critically acclaimed single “Bittersweet Timpani”, London duo WOOZE have announced details of a new EP titled “The Magnificent Eleven”. The EP is out 9th September via London tastemaker label Young Poet and follows on the heels of the band’s 2021 release “Get Me To A Nunnery”, which saw the band earn widespread plaudits for their inimitable sound and visuals.
“Birthday” sees the band push their heavy 80s glam-pop inflection to the fore. Arguably one of their most hook-led tracks to date, the fuzz-laced and groove heavy instrumentation dances around their idiosyncratic vocals with the repeated line “time to celebrate”. The track continues to exemplify the band’s signature tongue-in-cheek tone, which playfully touches on themes of modern living.
Speaking on the new single, the band says, “There aren’t enough songs commiserating birthdays, so we wanted to write one for that gap in the market, especially as each birthday now signifies one step further from the womb and one step closer to the tomb. A matter of perspective perhaps? But facts are facts.”
