Veil Of Maya Premiere First Official New Song “Mikasa”

Announcing that there was to be a change in the Veil Of Maya guard we welcomed new vocalist Lucas Magyard to the fore. Teasing that there would be new material, we have heard first single “Phoenix” which was very much the usual chugging associated with Veil Of Maya now we see another facet of the band not explored previously.

This is the first song in the band’s history to feature clean vocals, though I’m not sure that it’s a good thing. The song writing aspect is good, the song is catchy and the vocal hooks stick in your head with some techy breakdowns thrown in but it does seem to a little mismatched. Morphing from an At The Gates like Gothenburg riffing style to full on Saosin anthemic choruses and throw in some random breakdowns. It’s a brilliant way to make a statement that Veil Of Maya are indeed back, cementing their new singer, utilising his strengths to their advantage the band have essentially rebranded themselves, whether this is a good thing is up to you the fans. Not to mention I hope that “Mikasa” is a reference to the awesome Attack On Titan.

Personally I can’t get my head round the odd format of the song, morphing between genres every 30 seconds. Though I have currently only listened to the song once, it does seem to have a sense of growth to it. What do you guys think?

Veil Of Maya’s brand new album will be entitled Matriarch and is available for preorder here, before its May 12th released via Sumerian.
