Today’s Metal Masterpiece Goes To…

DECAPITATED – ORGANIC HALLUCINOSIS

Decapitated - Organic Hallucinosis

As the polish death metal titans are returning this coming week, I thought it would be apt that we take a small trip down memory lane for the creation of what is regarded as a death metal classic. Organic Hallucinosis although containing only seven tracks in total and a running time of just over thirty minutes, from the word go the pace is relentless. From opener “A Poem About An Old Prison Man” until the final caustic diminished notes of “Invisible Control” there has never quite been anything like it. After honing their sound on the metallic The Negation with Vogg’s guitar sound dialled in and Vitek’s drums excelling, Organic Hallucinosis is the next step in their catalogue, soaked in dread the pneumatic rhythmic patterns in the now classic “Post (?) Organic” act as a rhythmic battery, moving into the augmented chords barrage that is “Visual Delusion“. The album itself has an overall unresolved feeling a foreshadowing of things to come you could argue… Heightened with the tragic aftermath of the recording where we lost one of metal most talented drummers, involved in a fatal collision whilst on tour drummer Vitek passed away and current singer Covan is now in a coma.

However if there ever was something to leave as a legacy then Organic Hallucinosis is possibly the height of excellence, with an album that was so forward thinking, recorded in 2006 still stands alone, spawned unlimited amounts of copycats and is still arguably ahead of its time even now.  Having the album based around some of the hardest elements to master in music, creating atonal, dissonant riffs that were off kilter with odd time signatures and biting chromatic scales thrown in it is truly an example of death metal excellence.

Keep an eye out for our review of Decapitated’s latest release Blood Mantra next week with their new incarnation, but for now blast Organic Hallucinosis and have yourself the maddest of half hours!
