Last night across the pond a “prestigious” musical award ceremony was held. The 57th Grammy’s consisted of the usual musical genius, with performances from the usual Beyoncé, Katy Perry ilk to more profound musicians taking the stage. In the form of jazz legend Herbie Hancock, pop superstar Madonna but most importantly for us metal heads AC/DC.
With last nights performance being the first with new/old drummer Chris Slade the band played fantastically, delivering their signature rock ‘n’ roll to an audience that sorely needed it. Among the pop nominees and r n b winners one small award stood for metal.
Best Metal Perfromance. The nominees included :
Mastodon – High Road
Slipknot – The Negative One
Anthrax – Neon Knights from Ronnie James Dio This Is Your Life
Motörhead – Heartbreaker
Tenacious D – The Last In Line from Ronnie James Dio This Is Your Life
Predictably so the award went to Tenacious D. Not saying that Tenacious D are a bad band, but they are incredibly predictable. A safe option for people judging this genre of music that don’t know it and consider their experience of it to be from School Of Rock or Wayne’s World. Bands that truly deserved the award were denied it, the fantastic “High Road” from Mastodon or “The Negative One” comeback from Slipknot surely would be a worthy contender. Alas another year goes by and another predictable Grammy’s
