Consistency within Death Metal is often a word that get thrown around. Used freely without a true sense of merit the word can often be diffuse of its meaning. However after the release of their Imhotep conjuring words of caution What Should Not Be Unearthed last year, its fair to say Nile wholly deserve this accolade. Having previously spoken to Nile guitarist Karl Sanders on their previous first heat of the UK we were able to once again sit down with the band outside Tufnell Park’s The Dome. Speaking this time with the vocal demon that is Dallas Toler Wade we found out what the singer / shredder’s experience of creating the new record was like, that the man is a huge fan of Zelda and some VERY interesting news regarding this years Summer Slaughter tour in the US.
An Interview With : Tomasso Riccardi (Fleshgod Apocalypse)
Fortune favours the bold or so the saying goes. Unlike anything that has really come out of the Metal scene Fleshgod Apocalypse are masters of innovation. Taking an ambitious idea of moulding two polarising genres into a symbiosis of aweinspiring inventiveness. Arguably their most ambitious work conceptually as well as musically, King sees a milestone under the band’s already intimidating back catalogue. Their latest paradoxical combination of Death Metal and Classical makes for a beautiful, cinematic and absolutely enrapturing listen. We were lucky enough to be able to sit down with just one of the many maestros at the Fleshgod Apocalypse helm Tomasso Riccardi. Outlining the albums immediate concept as well as its tertiary metaphorical commentary on society, we uncover what King truly stands for and why it is one of the most daring musical compositions to come out of Death Metal yet.
An Interview With : Marc Gortz (Caliban)
Music itself can sometimes be a confusing affair, simultaneously forcing bands to remain steadfast to their values whilst sometimes forcing a band to adapt in order to survive. Having released their brand new album Gravity, Caliban have opted to return with a definitive statement of intent. Forgoing the likes of sing song choruses to release some of the bands heaviest material in years the band have in a way gone against the grain. Discovering answers behind the new album and its process along with discussing the current Metalcore climate in Europe and even Shakespeare…
An Interview With – Ted Lundstrom (Amon Amarth)
Having just released their brand new album Jomsviking, Amon Amarth have stated their claim to being one of the solid Death Metal bands out there. Known for the solidified reputation, twenty plus year in the industry can sometimes take its creative toll. Not only that but having the added problem of their now departed drummer the band are strangely, stronger than ever. Now on their tenth album the band decide to explore their most creative side yet. As the band’s foray into the unknown, Jomsviking is the bands first attempt at a concept album. An Interview With : Vogg And Rasta (Decapitated)
Definition of a band can be a double edged sword, known for their machine like accuracy from their infancy Decapitated have shared a rhythmic unity that most bands could only hope for. Limitless in their ability strangely it has pigeonholed the band into the niche of Technical Death Metal. Ever evolving owing to many different line up changes the band have indeed been out through their paces. Releasing their most recent effort Blood Mantra saw the band once again strive in a new direction. Adopting techniques implemented throughout their career the band decided to go for an all important groove approach. With a relentless touring schedule the band are among some of the hardest working in the business. Making a pit stop at London’s Electric Ballroom we were lucky enough to be able to speak to both Vogg and Rasta about the band, their current incarnation and the pioneering search of their sound soon to be exhibited when they enter the studio this December.
An Interview With : Josh Middleton (Sylosis)
Fast becoming the premier league in the arena of British Metal, Sylosis are by and large one of the best acts going. Combining excellent song writing, hook laden choruses whilst retaining integrity the band are an example to all others. It would seem with their last release, Dormant Heart that the band have finished cutting teeth and are now prepared to unveil their true plan. Enlisting Bleed From Within drummer Ali Richardson the band have just released a single with the drummer on board and shall soon be entering the writing process for the follow up to last years record. Shortly before their set at Camden’s Electric Ballroom we were able to speak to Josh Middleton surrounding Dormant Heart, the up coming release and David Ike of all things!
An Interview With : Stef Broks (Textures)
Homogenising the bands past, present and future to mould a new era of Textures, Phenotype the bands new release, will see them breaking more new ground in the arena of Progressive Metal. Focusing the album’s thematics to mirror the conceptual idea of both genotypes and phenotypes, each one respectively reliant on the other in order to survive. One about origin another in a sense about destination. Explaining in more depth to us shortly before flooring London I was able to speak to time keeper extraordinaire Stef Broks about Textures’ past, present and very bright future.
An Interview With : Michael Lessard (The Contortionist)
Reliant on both intuition and assessment we as a species endure the constant battle of nature versus nurture. On the one hand it is arguable that our behavioural patterns exhibit evidence of cognitive learning through the way that we are raised. However on the other hand there is the argument that our upbringing is inconsequential and that we are in fact reliant on instinct. Fascinated by these philosophical queries we spoke to The Contortionist vocalist Michael Lessard regarding their phenomenal album Language, its fruition and ultimately the very near future where we have only just seen the beginning of the bands parable.
