The legendary band announce their return and explain the meaning behind the album’s title and what to expect from this exciting new release!
Returning with their ninth studio album Symphony X have announced that they will be bringing a brand new album titled Underworld to the masses this summer. Set for a July 24th the new album, recorded at guitarist and mastermind Michael Romeo‘s studio The Dungeon, the record will be focusing on strong song writing that the band have had since their early days. Thematically although the album will not specifically be a concept album Romeo started looking to Dante and Orpheus of the Underworld. Where he descends to Hades to find the girl. Stating that “the theme of going to hell and back for something or someone you care about.” was the main idea for the record.
Inspired from the classic Divine Comedy, the most notable being Inferno. As an offshoot from that the band will be incorporating various elements from the story, for example in a homage to Dante, the band will be incorporating the use of three’s in various different ways. The first song on the album is a three syllable, three note melodic phrase and in the verse there are three references to three songs on the band’s third album. Some very in depth little easter eggs that will no doubt please fans all over. Personally I think this is a fantastic way to have a theme that transcends merely just the music.
Speaking of the cover art Romeo states :
Warren went with the masks, similar to the first record,” explains Romeo. “But when I discussed with him Dante and the underworld, he did his own research and designed a little symbol for each of the nine circles of hell. So there are these little geometric symbols that mean something. That’s just what he does. He gets in there and finds these things that maybe no one really besides us knows what it means and yet it has meaning.”
Having crafted material for 2012, Watchmen and The Incredible Hulk the illustrator seemed to be on the exact same page as the band themselves. Formed of eleven tracks the album is sure to be yet another monster in Symphony X’s arsenal. stay tuned for more info regarding the brand new album!
