Sylosis began their teasing of their new album Dormant Heart with the release of the riff heavy “Mercy“. Now fueling the fire even more the band have released a second song to come from the new album. “Leech” showcases a more melodic side to the band, still with the solemn down to the gallows style march the band have now coined. The use of harmony is clever throughout where melody is ever present, however it does sound very familiar to ground that we’ve seen on their previous Monolith. Perhaps it was meant to tie the two together.
Now to talk about the video, shot entirely by one Oliver Jones of Better Feeling Films, between the shots of our narrative and the band it took five hours to shoot the band themselves and give or take sixty days to animate the four minute piece. Having filmed all the shots the animator then went about tracing over each individual shot from the film itself to create a fantastic, stop motion esque feel. The process itself is called rotoscoping. Although sure to be a tiresome process the end product brings a lot more to the song itself, making a gruesome narrative and doing exactly what videos used to do, enhancing the song!
Its a pretty intriguing video to watch but beware its NSFW as the storyline is pretty morbid.
