Kicking off the main stage tomorrow is none other than the French environme(n)talists Gojira! One of the most exciting bands around at the moment, rooting themselves firmly in the rhythmic territory their jam “Flying Whales” is fantastic. Masters of tension, slowly building throughout the song until you get to THAT riff surely will NOT be one to miss.
Later on were to have another session with metals resident mad scientist, none other than the Devin Townsend Project, a man with many talents, whose band takes on many outfits from the almost new age Ghost to the pop sounding Addicted but what we all want to hear is Deconstruction. In “Juular” we’re treated some great riffing and even a guest appearance by Ihsahn, with news that Ziltoid 2 is on the horizon metals nicest chap should have some interesting surprises!
But it’s not all about progressive madness, sometimes you need to just get back to basics. Balls to the walls Rock n Roll, enter Airbourne. A band who may not be revolutionary but seriously know how to put on a good show with their appearance at Sonisphere 2012 frontman Joel o’Keefes daredevil antics had him climb the rigging completely unprotected a surefire winner! Check out their excellent Too Much Too Young Too Fast sure to turn some heads in the crowd!
Having just released Once More ‘Round the Sun the Atlanta titans shall be shaking the ground tomorrow with material old and new showcasing the evolution of Mastodon. Surely to be one to watch. One of their masterpieces has got to be Hearts Alive a thirteen minute epic as the penultimate track on their now legendary Leviathan. It has everything Mastodon have been reknown for, from discordant riffs to some of the best harmonies around an absolute classic!
After having the earth shifted under the punters feet it’s time to greet the grunge heroes Alice In Chains. Not only having paved the way for grunge as a genre after having the tragedy of the passing of Layne Staley they bounced back with full force proving the naysayers wrong with the brilliant “Black Gives Way To Blue”. Riff lord Jerry Cantrell predominantly holding the reins hearing “Check My Brain” live is surely going to be a treat!
Apart from having played now in every single continent on the planet courtesy of Coca Cola. Being the biggest metal act on earth, having written a film and literally writing metal as we know it today Metallica have now taken it upon themselves to perform as the most expensive function band in the world. With Metallica closing the proceedings at Sonisphere with their Metallica by Request were surely in for a treat! It’s actually quite a smart move on their part, if you’re the biggest band on the planet everyone wants to hear the hits but what about the songs people overlook that have never been played live? Well now is the chance to change all of that, we’ve picked a song which is an absolute rager but perhaps people don’t listen to enough. Only joking we’ll leave that to Metallica tomorrow night! Here’s Seek and Destroy!!
