Following from their recent announcement of Corey Taylor’s upset that people have deduced the supposed drummer and bassist’s identities, it seems that this has taken a backseat as the band release a brand new song from their forthcoming album .5: The Gray Chapter. “Custer” is definitely the heaviest output the band has had so far from the record. Harking back to the Iowa era Slipknot, the frenecity of the band is definitely still intact. Although the song is pretty solid and has some great riffs that are quintessential Slipknot the one piece that I almost thought was slightly laughable was the sample noise of a scream or siren. Although I’m sure that with time it will grow on me, bar that small niggle its a great song that has that Slipknot element of danger apparent throughout.
Slipknot’s new release will be the first since the death of former band member Paul Gray and the firing of Joey Jordison and is to be their most expected yet, being released on October 20th via Roadrunner Records soon all metalheads will have their opinions, but for now enjoy the madness of classic Slipknot with “Custer“.
