Slipknot have debuted their brand new video for “The Devil In I“. After having listened to the song more and more it’s hooks are really sinking in. In typical Slipknot style the ominous red figures that we’ve seen being teased could be seen as the metaphorical devil.
The video is I must say executed with serious class, it’s very well shot and excellently edited and follows a loose story, whilst in the process reveals our protagonists and their new masks. Most of the band have similar masks to their previous All Hope Is Gone incarnations, save Corey Taylor who has possibly the most menacing of all of Slipknot’s career. A simple touch that gives the mask an unempathetic feel and is incredibly ominous.
Throughout the video each member meets their demise, some is gestured more towards suicide while others are from a specific antagonist. Each being detailed about their own “Devil” inside. In this day and age music videos are becoming less and less warranted but in my opinion the video has even enhanced the song, especially the haunting final scene…
To say that Slipknot are excellent showmen would be an understatement, their legendary live performances and their enigmatic schizoid personalities have moulded them into being true icons of the 21st century and 5. The Gray Chapter is set to be their most experimental yet.
Check the video out below and see what you think for yourself, notice that both bassist and drummer are wearing the same mask. Perhaps one day we might find out their mysterious identities.
5. The Gray Chapter will be released on October 21st via Roadrunner Records.
