Six Feet Under Unveil New Song and New Album Details

After the release of the slightly underwhelming Undead in 2012, who would have known that the band had another album up their sleeve, releasing another brand new full length Unborn just one year later. The second of the two albums showcased a more ferocious approach with emphasis more on guitar lines and melody.

And now we come to 2015 where the band are ready once again to unleash their latest concoction to the unsuspecting public. Crypt Of  The Devil, the band’s eleventh studio album is not only through the effort of vocalist Chris Barnes, after previously touring with band Cannabis Corpse, it seems that Barnes and PhilLandphilHall struck up a friendship. After Barnes guested on last years Cannabis Corpse album, they both realised that they thrived through each other.

After writing trs together on the road, Six Feet Under then decided to head to Hall‘s personal studio in Virginia, where he tracked both bass and guitar, along with brother Josh Hall tracking the albums drums, leaving guitarist Brandon Ellis to track the albums leads. Barnes himself went to record vocals in London Bridge Studios in Seattle. The vocals were recorded in the same booth that Layne Staley of Alice In Chains previously recorded. Mixing and mastering was taken care of Rob Caldwell (Cannabis Corpse) and Alan Douches (Revocation and Cannibal Corpse). Lyrically Barnes stated that he has returned to the previous album’s style of writing the songs from the perspective of a serial killer.

But what does the new song sound like?

Open Coffin Orgy” begins a lot more straight forward than the previous albums, it has Barnes classic snarl and comical little “whee’s”. However you cannot deny that Hall‘s influence has definitely rubbed off on this track. Featuring some of the most interesting leads in a long while from the bands catalogue mid way through the song, much of the structure is similar to the style of Cannabis Corpse. Having said that the quintessential Six Feet Under vibe is definitely there. From the sounds of it, this could be set to be  a good collaboration, so long as Hall hasn’t hogged too much of the spotlight!
