Revocation have been a band that have been down trodden for far too long and are FINALLY getting the recognition that they deserve. After releasing previous albums with Relapse Records, the band decided to part ways with the label and have since found a home in Metal Blade Records. A mere year and a half after having released their self titled effort Revocation are back in the picture with self titled “Deathless” off the album with the same name they have ushered in a new beginning in their latest chapter. Having a slightly revamped logo and a new label backing them, the all important question is does it sound good?
As with Revocation’s previous history, it does not disappoint. Consistently delivering album after album it seems that Revocation just seem to be growing from strength to strength, with the anthemic chorus present as well as the trade mark, tasteful, divergent and inspired off the wall solo’s from Dave Davidson. Who is in my opinion the next Marty Friedman Perhaps having had the time for some of the members to work on other projects, rhythmn guitarist Dan Gargiulo’s Artificial Brain and front man Davdison’s contribution to Friedman’s absolutely brilliant Inferno, of which “Sociopaths” (his contribution) is one of the best on the album. The sheer talent that is in this band is unbelievable, the power house that is Phil Dubois on drums and as I mentioned before the absolutely daring, inconceivable, unpredictable leads of Davidson who is, in my opinion the best guitarist in modern metal, full stop.
The ten track album will sure be another string to Revocation’s already incredible bow, now having Metal Blade who actually back the bands they sign, come October 14th everyone will know about Deathless.
